"What happens if I have an orthodontic emergency while I'm on vacation?"

At Panorama Orthodontics, there are a few things we want to remind you of when you're on vacation so that a day with friends and family won’t be spent dealing with an orthodontic emergency. Firstly, we are here for you whether you are in town or out of town on vacation. Give us a call and we may be able to troubleshoot the problem with you over the phone.  If it is after hours, please do not hesitate to call our emergency number, to ask for help.

In the rare event that you are unable to reach us, we suggest going online and searching for orthodontic practices in your area. Most orthodontists will lend a helping hand to another orthodontic patient and get them out of pain or discomfort.  Lastly, we want you to know there is nothing you can do to your braces or wires that we won't be able to fix when you return home.

Don’t forget, if you have braces or other appliances in your mouth, Dr. Chow and our team suggest steering clear of the following foods to avoid broken brackets and other problems while you are on vacation:

• Chewing ice!
• Chewy, sticky or gummy foods
• Avoid apples, pears and other whole fruits. Instead, cut fruit into thin wedges before consuming.
• Bagels, hard rolls, and pizza crusts
• Bubble gum and other sugared gums
• Corn on the cob
• Hard candies
• Hard and crispy chips, Pretzels
• Nuts: All varieties, including peanuts, almonds and cashews

Finally, if you are in an Invisalign and you lose your aligner, don’t worry!  Give us a call, and we will instruct you to simply put in either the previous or next aligner, and order a replacement as necessary.

Follow these tips and you can have a worry-free vacation without worrying about your orthodontic treatment!
